Cord Blood to Save Immediate Relatives

I had read many stories about using the cord blood of one child to save his sibling. I have never imagined that I would have to face the same situation in my life. When my elder son was born the cord blood banking was not quite common, but the procedure had turned quite popular within few years. It was due to the recommendation of one my friends that I decided to go for banking of the cord blood of my younger child. It was years later that the elder son was diagnosed with a type of anemia. The situation was diagnosed at a very late stage wherein the blood transfusion was the only treatment. The cord blood was always the first preference as it contains all the elements of the normal blood along with the rich stem cells. I am happy that the procedure was able to save my son. I would like to inform every parent about the practicality of banking your new born baby’s blood. The number of diseases that can be treated with this blood is increasing day by day. When you are in need, it may not be easy to get an appropriate donor. This procedure helps you to save the blood that is otherwise being wasted for using later either for the baby himself or for others including the siblings. The blood of the family member is more likely to be a successful match for those who is an immediate family member.
